Luxury Bridal Shower Gifts for the Bride Who Has Everything

What do you get a bride for her bridal shower?

Check her registry first. If she's registered, buy from it or buy a piece that completes it. If she has everything, skip the practical and give one beautiful object for her home: a crystal glass, a vase, a frame for a wedding photo. Most guests spend $50 to $100 on a shower gift, and close friends and family often spend more. Below are eight gifts we'd give a bride ourselves, from $170 to $860.

How much should you spend on a bridal shower gift?

The common guideline is $50 to $75 for most guests and $100 or more for close friends and family. The shower gift is usually smaller than the wedding gift; a typical split puts about a third of your total budget toward the shower and the rest toward the wedding.

Those numbers are averages, not rules. For a close friend, a sister or a bride who already owns the basics, a single lasting piece often means more than several small ones. If the budget is a stretch, the bridesmaids can pool for one statement gift.

The registry rule for the bride who has everything

Every etiquette guide says to buy from the registry. For a bride with a well-stocked home, the registry is often half bought by the time of the shower, and what's left is practical. The shower is the one moment where an off-registry gift is welcome, as long as it fits her taste.

The way to do that without guessing: match her registry. If she registered for Baccarat glassware, give a Baccarat piece that isn't on the list. If she registered for Christofle silver, give a small Christofle object. You're adding to the home she's building instead of competing with it.

From the shop: When someone tells us the bride has everything, the first thing we ask is what she registered for. The registry tells you her taste more clearly than anything else, even when there's nothing left on it.

Choose something worth opening in front of everyone

Most bridal showers include opening gifts in front of the guests, and no guide mentions what that means for choosing one. A blender doesn't make much of a moment. A crystal glass, a sculptural vase or a silver tray does. Pick something that looks beautiful the second it comes out of the box.

Bring it or ship it?

Etiquette says to bring your gift to the shower. For anything fragile, consider shipping it to the bride's home instead and bringing a card that tells her it's on the way. Crystal and porcelain don't travel well in a pile of gift bags, and the bride won't have to carry a dozen boxes home at the end of the day.

From the shop: For crystal, we'd always ship. It arrives packed properly, and she opens it at home, where it's going to live.

Frequently asked questions

How much should you spend on a bridal shower gift?

Most guests spend $50 to $75, and close friends and family often spend $100 or more. The shower gift is usually smaller than the wedding gift.

Do you have to buy from the registry for a bridal shower?

No. Shower gifts can go off-registry more easily than wedding gifts. The safest way is to match the brands and style she registered for.

Should you bring a bridal shower gift or ship it?

Traditionally you bring it. For fragile pieces like crystal, shipping to her home and bringing a card is often the better choice.

What do you get a bride who has everything?

One beautiful object for her home that she wouldn't buy for herself: crystal, silver or a sculptural vase.

Can bridesmaids give a group bridal shower gift?

Yes. Pooling lets the group give one lasting piece, such as Baccarat candlesticks, instead of several small gifts.
