Is Alexandra von Furstenberg still in business?
No. After 19 years, Alexandra von Furstenberg announced in February 2026 that her company, AVF Home, would close, and it shut its doors in early April 2026. The brand is no longer producing new pieces. If you own AVF acrylic, it's now a piece of design history, and worth caring for properly.
The designer who made acrylic luxurious
Alexandra von Furstenberg founded her Los Angeles brand in 2007. It began with tables she designed for her own home, inspired by the facets of cut gemstones, and grew when she realized there was a market for them. She expanded into trays, boxes, votives, frames and tabletop pieces in saturated jewel colors, and for nearly two decades she was the name most associated with acrylic as a luxury material rather than a cheap one.

How to care for AVF acrylic
With the brand closed, there's no one left to replace a scratched tray or a clouded box. Acrylic lasts for decades if it's cleaned the right way, and gets ruined quickly if it isn't.
Do:
- Wash with lukewarm water and a few drops of mild dish soap.
- Dry and dust with a soft microfiber cloth. Dampen it slightly for dusting; dry dusting drags grit across the surface.
- Buff out light surface scratches with a plastic polish made for acrylic.
- Keep pieces away from heat: radiators, sunny windowsills, hot dishes.
Never:
- Use glass cleaner, or anything with ammonia or alcohol. It causes fine cracks called crazing and permanently clouds the surface.
- Use paper towels. They're abrasive enough to leave fine scratches.
- Put acrylic in the dishwasher. The heat can warp it.
From the shop: The AVF pieces customers told us looked tired almost always had the same cause: glass cleaner. Switch to soap and water and the damage stops.
Can you still buy AVF?
Not new. Pieces turn up on vintage and resale sites, and prices are likely to rise as the supply stops. If you buy secondhand, ask for close-up photos of the surface: scratches and clouding are much easier to see in person than in a listing.
