An essential classic of the house, this fish-shaped vase is reissued in patinated silver-plated metal, cast for the first time in one solid piece rather than assembled — with special attention paid to the eyes and fins to give it life and character.
Designed by Émile Reiber, head of Christofle's design workshop from 1865 to 1878, the piece is inspired by a Japanese bronze vase from the late Edo period. A spearhead of the Japonisme movement, Reiber first revisited it in 1874 in cloisonné enamel, a technique he helped bring back into fashion.
Few pieces carry as much Maison history as this one — a design on loan from the Musée d'Orsay and shown at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, now reissued as a solid silver-plated cast for the first time. It's a genuine collector's object as much as a decorative one.
