What Makes Crystal Glass So Special?
Share
Adorned with glimmering beauty, crystal is a symbol of elegance and royalty. Crystal glass is widely used for drinkware, ornaments, and jewelry. It is easily distinguishable but what makes it so special?
What Makes Crystal Glass Different from Normal Glass?
The major difference between crystal and regular glasses is that crystal has more mineral content (between 2% to 24%) including or excluding lead. Crystal glasses are far more durable and resistant to scratches. The rim can be made quite thin hence the popularity of crystal wine glasses. They also refract light which explains the dazzling sparkly effect a wine glass has. It is no surprise that crystal is expensive.
How to Care of Crystal Glasses?
While they are beautiful, it can be a little tricky to take care of crystal glasses. It is made from a porous material which is why crystal is mostly not dishwasher safe. Wash them in warm water with a gentle dish washing liquid soap and a soft sponge. If there is build-up on a crystal glass, soaking in white vinegar for 15 minutes effectively cleans it out. Alternatively, you can also gently rub some nail polish remover to get rid of build-ups.
